Im looking to set up my car sound system, im sick of the stock and want something a bit better.

Im looking at getting a 2din Kenwood dvd headunit (can get for 1/2 price)

Im thinking to replace the stock 6.5's in the door (2) and im planning to chuck in a couple of 10" subs so i will need a 2 channel for the 6.5's and 2 monos? for the subs or wire them up in series?

Boxes etc are all ok, i can build them but what brand speakers would people recommend and also what other things do i need. Wire obviously but i have heard mention of various other things can anyone help.

Also my budget is whatever i deem fit. I want it to be good but i dont exactly want top of the line

i just put this system together with the thoughts of not upgrading to a super high out put alternator but i would still use one that is greater than stock. this system is inexpensive but still all good quality stuff. the site i gave that has the wire also has the fuses and holders and distribution blocks and RCA's. you will still need to get the wiring harness and stuff like that for your head unit but this is basically it.

  2. My personal take on this is ... I don't like Kenwood.  If I was going to go with a double din, I'd look at Alpine or the JVC units.  Valor has one that looks pretty good too.  I've never been a fan of Kenwood.  Definitely upgrade your front speakers and get a two channel amp for those.  If the speakers are rated for 75 wmrs, I'd get an amp that puts out at least that much.  Again, personal preference, and also I'm an SQ guy, but I'm not a big fan of multiple subs.  It's not usually necessary.  If you have a good system design, unless you're competing in SPL or something, one sub done right should be plenty for anybody.  Same rules apply with your sub(s), get an amp that puts out at least the wrms rated power of the subs.  Which, brings up another issue, if you're going to be running a system beyond about 1,000 total rms watts or so, you'll want to plan on getting a high output alternator.  If you post another question with more detail about the type of music you listen to, how loud you want to be, whether you're looking for sound qulity or if you just want to be loud, how do you like to hear your music?  (very detailed and crips or more smooth and natural).  Your speaker selections will change how your music sounds.  I can guide you a lot further once I know more about what you're looking to accomplish with your system.  peace.
