Full ride girls golf scholarship?

ok, so I would kind of like some input on how i'm doing this year and whether or not i can get a scholarship for golf. i am a girl, 14years old, a sophomore in high school, and usually shoot around a 39 on 9 holes and 80 or under on 18 holes (my handicap is 8). I have a 4.0 in all honors and AP courses, so academics aren't really that much of a problem. but as far as my golf game, what goals do i need to set for myself to get into a division 1 college. I really want to go to Stanford. I know my scores aren't good enough yet, but do you think I can go to Stanford with a golf scholarship if I really step up my game and shoot low 70's? my goal by the end of this year is to lower my handicap to a 5 or under, so if i'm able to do that can I get into a division 1 college with a scholarship? thanks :)

  1. Have your golf coach make several inquiries as to which schools offer scholarships for girls' golf. There is Duke where our 5 time women's champ as a high school student received a scholarship. The Stepanik sisters from Branford, CT both have received scholarships but the names of the schools escape me.I believe the Lendl sisters are at school on golf scholarships despite th fortunes of the father.

  2. Yes there is a possibility. But i have a question are you really in AP classes as a sophomore. And are you really 14!

I'm 14 im a freshman and im only in trigonometry honors and chemistry and stuff so 2 years above my grade level.

  3. If you can consistently avg at or around par on a good tough golf course, then you'll be fine.  Maybe look up Ping's College Golf Guide, or check out Stanford's website and look at the scores those girls shoot to get a good idea what you'll need to shoot in order to be at or above that level.

Practice everything from 100 yds and in if you want to make it.  That's the best tip I can give you.  Anyone can bomb it, but not everyone can roll the rock.

www.freewebs.com/eGolf if you have any other ?'s.  Good luck, and just go for it, and who knows, you may be better than those girls by the time you're 18.

  4. Yeah for sure you can get a full ride. Most girls golf teams offer 8-10 scholarships a year, which is twice the amount of boys. Keep up those grades, and you will be able to get into Stanford.

As for the golf, you still have plenty of time, but the handicap needs to be at least a 2 or better. Especially for such a dominating DI school. Just keep practicing and studying, and I guarantee it will come.
