Full time report: Everton Vs Stoke City 1-0
Everton striker Ayegbeni Yakubu found his first goal in the Premier League since April to hand his side much needed 3 points against Stoke City. It was the Nigerian’s goal in the 67th minute that stood in between the two sides at Goodison Park
but was enough to earn all three points.
The first half was a complete stalemate in terms of chances and goals and the game picked up its pace in the second half. However, the hosts deserved the victory as they played extremely well and created the best chances in the game. Yakubu show cased his
true instinct to hand in the winner, after midfielder Tim Cahil had hit the bar early on. This was the first goal that came from a striker for Everton this season and Yakubu paid manager David Moyes’s faith in full by scoring the winning goal.
The win takes Everton’s undefeated streak to 5 fixtures and the side continues to put their horrible start behind them and climb position in the Premier League table. On the other hands, Stoke, who started the season brilliantly, seem to have lost their
stride owing to 3 consecutive defeats.
Everton had the first opportunity of the match when Shawcross tripped Yakubu on the corner of the box. Mikel Arteta stepped up to take the kick but blasted the ball well off target. Moving into the second half, it was not until the 50th minute
when Stoke finally made the presence felt, with Wilson cutting in from the right to take a shot off target. Defender Shawcross also had a chance to score when he found the ball within 12 yards to have a shot. Stoke’s goal was disallowed when Tuncay bundled
the ball over the line but referee saw the foul and penalized the midfielder for barging into left back Baines. The hosts then managed a brisk counter attack to set up John Heitinga but he couldn’t control the ball.
Everton’s win takes them back to familiar territory in the league table, as the side is currently 7th with 13 points. It took some time for Merseyside club to kick start their season this year but would be delighted to back in their stride. Everton
is one of the most respected clubs in the premier league and have been there since the league started in 1992. They have always managed to finish in the top 7 and have greatly improved since the arrival of David Moyes at the helm of the club in 2002.
