Full time report: Wolverhampton Wanderers versus Manchester City
Score-line 2-1
A demoralizing result for Manchester City as Wolves managed a hard fought victory over the high spending club.
Wolves conceded early on that to a penalty given by defender Stearman on Spanish winger David Silva in the 22nd minute. Striker Emmanuel Adebayor stepped up to take the spot kick and thrashed the bottom left corner to take the visitors on a much
deserved lead.
However, with the energy of the home crowd behind them, Wolves sought a major come back just in 10 minutes when Milijas found the back of the net from just out of the six yard box. The player managed to control a half volley from Jarvis and used the power
in his right foot to find the equalizer.
At half time, it looked like Man City would come out the tunnel more focused and with more concentration. However, that was not the case as the home side dominated the possession. All the possession finally paid off with a bit of luck.
It was a bit of a scrappy goal, but the delirious Wolves fans did not care. Kevin Foley volleyed a slightly hiopeful high ball into the danger zone, Kolo Toure couldn't get muchy purchase on his headed clearance, and David Edwards was there to sidefoot
home from close range with Hart beaten. The home side took the lead and statically, they had retained 70% of possession.
The visitors sought a comeback with Adebayor asserted himself well in midfield and layed it off for Silva in the 60th minute, though the Spaniard's ball forward for Balotelli fails to reach its target. This attack was followed with a corner from
Balotelli but was well dealt with by the Wolves defence. It came back out to the Italian, who then put in a low cross but was far too close to Hahnemann, and the Wolves fans roared in relief and to urge their team forward again.
Manchester City never looked like coming from such the goal and manager Roberto Mancini made some unusual substitution. Defender Zabeleta came on for Balotelli, who had a rough debut with his new club but it was surprising to see a defender coming on for
an attacker despite being one goal down. The Wolves fans roared for the support of their beloved team, which really helped the side keep their composure in dying moments of the match.
The win against City was Wolves first one in 6 fixtures against the Eastlands and even if it doesn’t take them out of the danger zone, these priceless points would provide them with motivation and confidence boost. On the other hand, City’s loss has taken
them 8 points behind leaders Chelsea and this loss deals a major blow to their title dreams. City have now experienced back to back defeats in the league and would be greatly hurt by a loss to 19th spot Wolves. Roberto Mancini would have to regroup
his squad and stop his dependency on Carlos Tevez to be the man for his side. Both Adebayor and Balotelli were extremely disappointing in the run-in and struggled to keep their stride. The 20 year old Italian missed a lot of chances and would have to be taught
team play rather than individual brilliance.
Man City face a tricky West Bromwich Albion side on the road next week and would have to play on their level best to pull one over the new comers. West Bromwich has been brilliant since their arrival in top flight this season and are not the whipping boys
of the league.
