Fullback Montell Owens to play as starter RB for Jacksonville Jaguars versus New York Jets – NFL News
Fullback and fourth-team running back Montell Owens is excited about arrival of an opportunity to share workload for the Jacksonville Jaguars at running back given their key players including star performer Maurice Jones-Drew are on the sideline because
of respective injury scares
Owens is likely the team’s starter in the game versus the New York Jets this Sunday (Dec. 09) as he fits the team requirement of a makeshift RB because of his versatility. He is one of the players who can come as a solution to the team’s woes at any position.
Since the Jags are without Maurice, Jalen Parmele and Rashad Jennings, who are out from the side with respective injury scares, they have decided to give the veteran a chance as a last resort to cover for the injured players. Apparently, the player is humbled
to accept the additional task.
He said:
"It's just a chance to showcase yourself in a way that you haven't been accustomed to. I just enjoy playing the game. It doesn't matter where I am. I'm not one of those guys that's concerned with where I'm playing or how much I'm playing. Some guys, they've
been waiting to play the position that they had in high school or college. I'm just grateful for the opportunity, grateful to be part of this organization. Wherever that is, I'm going to put a winning effort out there."
The Jags have four more games to play this season, and with the record of 2-10, the injuries do not bode well with their hopes of putting some respectable numbers on the points table. They are heading to end the season at even worse note than past season
if they do not pull off at least three more victories. They ended the 2011 season at 5-11, and they have managed only a pair of wins this season so far.
It is pertinent to mention that the Jags are without their main offence leader quarterback Blaine Gabbert. He requires a surgery on his arm, and the injury has ended the current season for him.
