Fully-fit Brandt Snedeker shines at Torrey Pines
Brandt Snedeker was more than thrilled on the second day of the Farmers Insurance Open, as he did not expect at all that he would be able to record an impressive score and finish 2nd on the leaderboard.
Before setting his foot on the course of Torrey Pines, Snedeker was going through a rough time, as he was having trouble with his hips. In 2010, he had to undergo surgery to have his left hip repaired.
Even a few weeks before the Farmers Insurance Open, he was spending time with a painful body.
The 31-year-old American scored an overall 13-under 131 at the end of the 2nd day. He himself seemed thrilled about his incredibly good performance, saying that he was glad he recovered from his injury.
"I'm certainly surprised that I played this well and this fast," Snedeker said. "Normally it takes me a while to get the rust off... But my practice at home was really, really well indeed. I was kind of shocked at how quick I picked it back up".
"I was actually chomping at the bit to get out here because I knew I was playing extremely well. But you never really know until you get back out here and get under conditions. But I was actually pretty right on," he continued.
Snedeker started his first round in an impressive style. He fired his 1st birdie on the 1st hole.
Although he was having trouble with his swings, he still did his best. One lousy putt on the 2nd gave him a bogey but he offset this setback by reeling off 2 straight birdies.
He again seemed to falter, as he scored his 2nd bogey on the par-5 9th. On the back nine of the 1st round, he recorded 2 birdies on the hardest par-3 11th and par-5 18th. His overall score for the day
was 5-under 67.
The second day was almost as good, as he opened the round by firing 3 consecutive birdies on the first 3 holes.
After parring the next 4 holes, he again displayed his magic and carded 2 birdies on the par-4 8th and par-5 9th.
