How does evidence change something that was an uncertain

hypothesis into a well-established theory/law?

  1. A hypothesis is a speculation that can be tested.  A scientific theory explains the physical evidence.  A hypothesis can lead to a theory when there is a lot of good scientific evidence to support a theory.  Note that people often confuse theory with speculation.
