I am working at a summer camp this year and my group is a bunch of nine year olds, part of the day schedule is reading and spelling and I have already played hang-man with them to practice spelling. I was thinking of finding a good childrens book that we can put a play on with something minor just for in class does anyone have any suggestions?

If not the play then just some short stories that will keep them entertained for an hour or so?

  1. Readers Theaters are great.  I would guess you are about at the 3rd-4th grade level.  They are fun and the children get extra practice reading.  there are several sites on-line that you can download them for free.  See link below.

If you are doing math you can play around the world, baseball. Use flash cards for the operation.  Start at one end of the room.  Students advance through the rest of the students as they get the facts correct.

Divide into two-three teams.  Ask questions of your choice.  Wrong answers sit down.  Team with most players left at end wins.  (use with any subject)

    Have fun!

  2. If you have the equipment (computer, TV or projector) at your camp, you could play jeopardy with the create and play your own jeopardy game from the site below:

I also really like MadLibs as an easy entertaining educational interactive game with kids.
