  1. If you're single, there's a great organization in DC that will get you out doing different things as well as meeting other singles.  It's called Single Volunteers of DC and their web site is http://www.singlevolunteers.org

You can volunteer as much or as little as you want, and all of the volunteer events are 2-4 hours long.  They do all different kinds of volunteering - cleaning up hiking trails, serving meals to the homeless.  Afterwards, the group who volunteers goes out to eat/have a cocktail.  It's a wonderful way to learn more about the city.

There's a bunch of intermural sports teams that play things like volleyball and street hockey.  I don't know a web site, but I bet a Yahoo search will come up with something.

The national gallery of art and the Kennedy Center have free concerts and events.  They are always interesting, and it's a nice way to end your day.

There's also a half-price ticket place similar to Tix in NYC.  It's called Ticketplace and they sell tickets to all kinds of performing arts events, including some venues that are smaller and off the beaten track.

    Hope this helps!
