  1. at our studio we do tumbling

  2. 4 to 9 is a wide age range. I'd suggest team building games: trust falls, dancing out different scenarios, charades, jump the river (lay two jump ropes close together adn have the dancers leap over them, each time through the line , making them further and further apart. anyone who steps in between is out)

We always do a craft in my summer classes, as well. Usually a dance collage one day, posters of different dance words one day etc.

    Good luck!

  3. Play "Follow the Leader".  Each student gets to instruct a move, explain and show it, and then the others attempt it.

  4. my old dance teacher used to have contest like who can get both of their splits or who can hold their hand stand the longest  and whoever won got a lollipop.

  5. you can teach them exercises like strengthening there legs, but making a game out of it like, okay class lets pretend out legs are like the airplanes wings lets see how long we can fly them, or something like that.

  6. A cute game for younger kids is when you all sit in a circle and each dancer gets to show his or her favorite move. The rest of the class has to try to name the move.

To improve the students' jumps, you can place an object on the floor and have them jump over it when you are having them do jumps.

To improve the students' first position while dancing, you can have them each hold a beach ball while doing a combination so that they are aware of where their arms should always be. This will help them extremely in the future!

Good luck and hope this helps!!!
