Fun trip to go to guatemala?

trying to pick a place for spring break

antigua is cool....but touristy.......still cool

better is lake atitlan....lots of tourists but beautiful  

near there is "chichicastenango" the market is there only 2? days a week.

if you are really into trekking, the north region is cool but it is not a "spring break" place.

many go to xela (quetzeltenango)  that is cool, but the above mention places are better.

a really interesting place is todo santos near the mexican boarder and huehuetenango.  it is a mountain town with a cool market and interesting indigenous people. read about it.

you can get to tikal, but the ride is bone crunching on the bus from guatemala city and you don't have enough time.  take the plane....or travel from cancun (via belize)  but at that point, you are not seeing any other part of guatemala, so you could just fly from guatemala city on your last few days and overnite near the ruins.

if you want spring break places???? either lago atitlan (with side trip to chichi on market day) or antigua.

Oh yeah. Go to Antigua in Guatemala (about 45mins from Guatemala City). From there you can take a tourist trip to Pakaya Volcano where you can walk up a proper volcano - its awesome!! You get to see the lava coming down the side and we went at sunset, so walked up in the day, and down at dusk. What an experience.

Is it a good trip for spring break? Not sure. Is is a good trip overall? Oh yeah!!

You can also do other excursions ie to Copan National Park which is beautiful, to Tikal Ruins, which are incredible, many local villages and markets to view etc. Antigua is great also - a wonderful mix of western meets Latin America and tradition.  Dont bother with Guatemala City - its a dump. There are also beaches about 1 hr away, but I didnt visit. Apparently they're nice though.
