Funcheon Lad dominant in the Stadium Bookmakers Sprint Trophy – Heat 1 at Nottingham
The Heat 1 of the Stadium Bookmakers Sprint Trophy will be contested by Rockchase Ryves, Zigzag Zodiac, Bittles Bar, Monleek Town, Funcheon Lad and Dynamo Joe. The race will be held at Nottingham over 305 metres on Monday, 21st May and offers
the prize money of £125.
The most promising entry for the race is Funcheon Lad, Scarty Lad’s three-year-old black son out of b***h, Fridays Girl. He won the seasonal debut that was on 7th January at Yarmouth over 277 metres.
Funcheon Lad completed the trip in 16.26 seconds and led the runner up of the race, Frankbrunosbro, by seven lengths.
As if being aggressive in the first race only was enough of an impact, he failed in the next four races, he finished sixth in two, came third and then ended fourth.
His second career success was in the Stadium Bookmakers Maiden Sprint on 5th March at Nottingham over 305 metres. Funcheon Lad clocked the track distance in 18.45 seconds and led the runner up, Little Reminder, by ¾ of a length.
The 7/4 favourite of the race, Romeo You Decide, finished third behind the winner.
The trainer, K. Hackney, after having realized the true potential of his under charge once he had won, trained him thrice.
It was twice at Monmore and once at Hall Green. On 13th March, he timed the 416 metres at Monmore in 25.63 seconds then took 15.87 seconds to settle the 258 metres at Hall Green on 28th March.
The third and final drilling session on 8th May at Monmore over 264 metres took Funcheon Lad 15.55 seconds to complete the task.
The training did help as the three-year-old was able to maintain the consistency by timing the 264 metres at Monmore on 15th May in 15.61 seconds. He won by a very narrow margin of a head from the runner up of the race, Pinewood Express.
Today is his eighth try of the season and a chance to strike the third victory of the season. It should not be very difficult for Funcheon Lad as he has raced just once after the training session.
