Function of continental-collision mountains?

Is the function of continental-collision mountains to fix tectonic plates (like the fixation of Eurpean and Asiatic plates by Ural Mountains) ?

  1. There is no function of mountains to "fix" plates.  The plates move as they are forced to do by the underlying magma.  Look at India and Asia.  That collision has been going on for many, many  millions of years - and it is going on today.  

    If the forces of the magma are great enough the continents will be crushed - period.  If continents cease being crushed it is not because they have been "fixed" it is because the forces of the underlying magma have changed.
