  1. In humans and higher primates, uric acid is the final oxidation product of purine catabolism. In most other mammals, the enzyme uricase further oxidizes uric acid to allantoin. Uric acid is a strong reducing agent (electron donor) and potent antioxidant. In humans, about half the antioxidant capacity of plasma comes from uric acid.

    Urea is an organic compound with the chemical formula (NH2)2CO. Ammonia is converted to urea by the liver, and urea is the form in which nitrogenous waste is excreted in mammals.
