  1. any polar group will improve a molecule's solubility, so gropus like -OH (hydroxide), -CO (carbonyl), -COH (carboxylic acid), COOH (carboxyl), -NH3, NH2 (amines and amides). Also any polar molecules will make something more soluble. So if a C-H chain has a random chrlorine in it, it will be more soluble than a regular -CH chain because of the polar chlorine, which is more electronegative.

Phosphate groups involve transfer of energy (so like ADP to ATP, and vise-versa). the transferring of phosphates between adenines is the transfer of energy.

    Carbonyl? it's CO vs OH

peptide bond, which the bonding of a carboxyl group and an amino group.

  2. These have a ton of answers,

-Lots of functional groups improve solubility in water. Hydroxyl, carboxyl, amine, etc...

-All bond breaking and forming involves transfer of energy.

-Hydroxyl, or alcohol (OH) is similar to a thiol (SH)

-disulfide bonds (R-S-S-R) stabilize tertiary protein structure, hydrogen bonds (OH----NH) stabilize secondary structure, peptide bonds are amides.
