Question:

Functional hood scoop for V8 Mustang?

I just bought a 2001 Ford Mustang with a 4.6 V8 and was wondering where I could buy a full functional hood scoop like the Bullitt Mustang had. Or would it be better to build one myself? Also, are there any websites that have done this before and would have instruction and tips?

  1. Someguy;

    Most hoods you buy today look good, but are not really functional.

    Here are aero facts for hot rodding: Most hoods are Cowl Induction. That means that the air intake is taken from the rear of the hood or the base of the windshield. This is a low pressure area at any speed. The hood needs an opening to draw air from this area.

    Ram Air is frontal air intake. However in a Ram air situation, the intake manifold needs modification to prevent air turbulence when the air enters the manifold.

    I have made my own hoods for the last 40 years. Usually I take a factory hood and modify it. I use metal to metal, with lead (Solder).

    This art is gone for body techs of today unless you take it to a Real hot rod restorer.

    Websites will not usually tell you the truth, they just want to sell a part.

  2. Your looking at around $800+ to have this kind of setup put on your stang.its called the "shaker" hood scoop.There are many websites that offer this kinda setup like this one---------

    http://www.americanmuscle.com/shaker-hoo...

    They are all around the same price.I suppose you could make one yourself if your a decent fabricator and body man but id rather spend the money (which i dont have) and have it done right.

    edit-- The link i just provided you with kinda looks like a dopey setup.Not only do they have the filter sitting under the hood exposed to suck in all the engine heat but the duct work from the scoop itself looks pretty lame and barely covers the air filter!!
