Question:

Fund raising ideas for no kill animal shelter?

Anyone have any effective fundraising ideas to help a local no kill animal shelter stay afloat? I want to organize something with a group of volunteers but I've never actually hosted any type of fundraiser before.

Anyone with experience in fundraising, particularly with animal shelters/animal related fundraisers would be especially helpful. I'd love to get a local business involved but not sure how to go about doing this. Shelter is in a large college town as well so even getting a bar involved for a night could be effective.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

  1. This is a great idea.  I'm glad you are getting involved in your community.  I've never run a fundraiser before but I've been a participant in a few.

Stewarts is a great company to get on board.  They usually do matching funds.  Get an english/journalism major or reporter wannabe to help you write letters to local businesses asking for donations and sponsorship.

The college campus is a great place to host a walk.  People can get sponsors to pay so much per mile or just donations and the people collecting the money can have a great day and get exercise as well.

Get permission to put up donation boxes around campus, but be sure to make them secure so people can't steal the money out of them.

Get a boy band (or girl/mixed band) to play at a local bar and forfeit their pay to the shelter.  Or a portion of it.

Have a bake/craft/tag sale and give the profits to the shelter.

  2. Sell raffle tickets, dog p**p, or i dont know.

  3. For my youth group what we did for an animal shelter was had a car wash to make money for the shelter and we put ads in the newspaper and stuff to have people donate supplies and we had a day that allot of people went and volunteered and we helped clean organize and feed the animals and stuff. also you can go to businesses and ask them if they would help support the animal shelter and make a donation and explain to them how great of a cause it is.have you ever seen coyote ugly where they auction of guys at the bar you could do that. Another idea is to clean old peoples yards and stuff cutt grass

  4. You could take pictures of some of the animals currently living in the shelter, and have Walgreens or somebody make calendars out of them.  You could even dress the animals in little tutus and tuxedos, or like santa for December.  Then sell the calendars around town, on campus, at bars, etc.  You are great for saving the lives of the animals!  Keep trying.
