Question:

Funding or grants for a not-for-profit organisation?

I am in the process of setting up an information, advice and counselling service for young people. I would like to know how I can access funding/grants for this type of organisation.

I need funding to pay for a building where young people can access all the services that will be available to them and I need funding to pay the specialised staff.

I have researched the Lottery fund but a lot of their funders take months to process which is ok but I want to know if there are other funders who can make a decision quicker so that I can use the funds to expand the service sooner.

  1. Here is a good place for you to start. The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) This catalog is a resource for all  Federal Grants and loans. http://12.46.245.173/cfda/cfda.html

Your City and state would have sites that can help you out. Do a search on block grants for your state. That should get your research going.

  2. First of all, there is no such thing legally as not for profit in the UK - you need to be clear on the correct legal status of your organisation before you apply anywhere.

The BLF is not that slow - and Awards for All is only 8 weeks. Raising funds is not an instant process! Do you have a properly worked out budget and project plan?

Contact your local CVS (Google your town and CVS) - they will have access to specialist software such as Funderfinder and Grantfinder and will help you with your search.

  3. there is a book you can get from the gov; i think that lists all the giver's

when i did that i talked to other fund raiser's and got names , books from them , you will never get an answer quicker than a couple of months we have had to wait for 6 months or more for an answer

  4. Google has a list of sites you could use, just search for what you need.

  5. you can go to schools...put up signs that say that you ned money

sell things and let the proceeds go to your projects

    GOOD LUCK!
