Fundraiser- Field Trip for Head Start Preschool for low-income or no income at all?

Can you develope a fundraiser raising money for low-income or no income to go to a field trip? it's a Head Start Preschool and I want to take them to a wonderful field trip something that they're parents can't afford and how would I start? some advice please thanks.

Like above make sure your branch of Head Start allows fundraisers.  The Head Start I work for has stopped allowing fund raisers due to some changes in the federal guidelines.  Our parent committee used to do the fundraisers and give the teachers so much money for their classrooms.  One teacher always took an end of the year field trip to a big city zoo.  If you can not have a field trip approach local civic groups for funding.  Lions club, Rotary, Veterans clubs, etc.  You could also look into Grant money or local scholarship money's that sometimes go unused.  Talk to people about what you would love to do for your class.  Word travels and sometimes to people who can afford a tax right off.  Beauty salon, Doctors office , church friends ect.  Good luck and keep the faith.

  3. Sell raffles tickets for a quilt. Find someone who makes them and ask them to either sell it to you cheaply or donate it. You would be surpirsed at who knows who after you start asking. It is also the perfect time for quilts.

First, check with your program and make sure you're allowed to do a fundraiser.  Some programs do not allow them.  If you are allowed to do it, choose something that allows the children to contribute in some way.  I know a boy scout troup who earned a trip to Washington, D.C. by recycling newspapers in the community.  They asked everyone they knew to contribute their used newspapers, and the boys bundled them and loaded them into one of the mom's truck and she took them in for recycling every two or three weeks.  You may also be able to help clean up your community:  give the kids disposable gloves to wear and go on a clean-up walk to collect aluminum cans to recycle.  The kids can ask family and friends to contribute, too.

    By doing it this way, you will be teaching the children that they can earn what they want in life through hard work.  Nothing wrong with teaching a good work ethic!  You certainly don't want to teach that because they come from a low income environment they are entitled to receive special experiences for free.  Also, the children will be more appreciative of the trip and proud of themselves for having earned it.

    You should also contact the place you want to go and see if they are willing to give a discounted rate under the circumstances.  In my experience (years in Head Start) many places are willing to do this.  Make sure the children make a wonderful thank you note.  You can make a big poster and have each child put a handprint on it and write their own name on the handprint.

  5. we sell home interior candles every year -  the consultant does all the work and we normally make around $1500 - that's for a 55 student preschool - not bad!

  6. How about a garage sale with donated toys and kids cloths. At the same time you raise funds, you can also help the moms save money.
