Fundraising for my son?

My 12 yr old son was accepted to go with People to People Ambassadors Program to Italy this summer. He has to raise $6000 in order to go. Any suggestions on how to raise this? Most fundraisers are geared toward groups.

$6000 seems excessive.

I was invited to go on the People to People Programs every year when I was younger. Alot of my friends were too. None of us ever went though. They were to expensive and it seemed like they invited alot of people just for a few to actually go. How long does he have to raise the money?
