Question:

Fundraising for overseas orphanage...?

I know this type of question has been asked a thousand times, but bear with me...

I work for a Children's Village in the town of Cyvadier, Haiti. Our challenge, as a relatively small non-profit, is that we are in constant need of funding. We currently support 30 children at our orphanage and the cost is ever-growing. I have been able to come up with several on-going fundraising ideas for a few years, now, but am starting to run dry.

Does anyone have any good (non "bake sale" type) fundraising ideas? Preferably something that can be done online...? Something to 'challenge' our supporters to (do)...?

ANY suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

  1. What about online fundraising?

Take a look at GiveStream. It offers a free easy-to-use personalized online fundraising center.

The concept is simple, your organization will earn money while your supporters conduct their everyday shopping and searching activities online.

  2. check out http://www.sixdegrees.org/

There are a lot of ways you can also raise money. It depends both on the age group of your volunteers, age group/type of person you are targeting, as well the resources you have available.

Younger people (often girls) do better bikini washes then trying to get their friends to go to a basket bingo or craft fair.

Does anyone you know sell anything? (jewelry, longaberger baskets, Arbonne, tupperwear etc.) See about Haveing them donate things for prizes or a raffle. Does someone have a large yard or have access to a hall?

Do most people your targeting to show up have kids? Kiddie carnivals are fun (kids bring parents, parents bring money). If you have good connections with local businesses you can ask them to sponsor booths and post ads for them. Any time you have low costs or cost for supplies etc donated you'll have a good event.

Basket Bingos are fun as are chinese auctions and kiddie carnivals, Car Wash and if you are friends with a local performer a concert can go well. Also, try finding a local community service group and work with them, they have a lot of networking and may be willing to work with you.

Good luck! And whatever you do have fun!
