Question:

Fundraising ideas for educational trip to Paris?

I've been selected to represent the New Zealand by the National Astronomical Society at the International Year of Astronomy opening conference and ceremony in January 2009, which just happens to be in Paris....

Plane tickets, insurance and what not... it's going to be a bit of money...

I've already planned to do a movie night fundraising event...

What are some other things I could do?

Thanks, your ideas much appreciated. :)

  1. Contact the service clubs in your town  Lions. Rotary  Etc

  2. somethting with hockey or food

  3. What about a raffle? Approach some local businesses (or even big ones by mail) and request donations, then sell tickets. You could possibly even do this online. I've seen things like this done on Ebay.

Would people in your area be willing to pay for a 'Stargazing Night'? Bring a telescope and talk about constellations, etc. If you like kids, you could do a Science Camp too where you teach the kids about space and astrology for a week. Ask the local schools if you can send home flyers with the kids, or head out to areas where families would be on the weekends.

Check with some of the businesses in your area on options they might offer. I know a lot of ours will give you a portion of what they make on a chosen night in exchange for you advertising to friends, family, etc to come in and eat, drink, etc for that evening.
