Fundraising to help animals?

Question

What would i need to do to earn money for my local animal shelter? i've been messing up alot lately and getting into trouble. i want to do something to help animals out, because i have such a strong love for them! i really want to help and earn money for them and do something right..

-what are the things i would need to do to get started?

-do i need to ask the animal shelter before offering them a big check? lol

-how can i get more people to volunteer?

-what kind of activities would get people to donate money?

-should i make a bunch of signs and fliers?

If you are willing to organize and do the leg work chances are you could interest the other volunteers, the ones that volunteer their time at the shelter, to help with the labor.  Them and some students at the local high school, to do something as simple as a weekend car wash.  You would need someone to donate the water, location and chances are the volunteers could bring their own sponges and towels and soap.  Maybe the shelter could invest in anything not covered.   Don&#039;t forget to advertise.  Local radio station might give you a mention as well as the paper.  Check with churches and other civic organizations about getting a mention in their weekly news letter.  You could whip out a flier for pet oriented businesses to put in the window (vet offices and pet supply stores).  Your job is the hard part, to make it happen.  All the face time it takes to ask people give you something for free, for a good cause.  What you can offer them is acknowledgment on your flier by added their logo at the bottom or just a list of contributers.  Business are glad to donate if they get a mention.

Should be some info on conducting a successful car wash on the internet.  If not you can talk to someone that organized the last band car wash :-)  What I&#039;m saying is don&#039;t just figure it on your own.  Network and get organized.  Find out about what to charge.  Keep it low and people tend to though a heavy tip in to seem generous.  Take care of the money, it&#039;s all about the money in the end.  You don&#039;t want any questions coming up about that.  If the shelter is a non-profit they may be able to offer receipts for tax credits.  Ask the shelter how that works.

Well I work at a shelter in Indiana and first of all you need to stop in to your local shelter and ask them what you can do to help. Trust me once you get in the door and ask the question they will give you a huge list of things they need, here are some ideas our helpers are doing right now.

Right now we have many fund raising things going on. Some local teens are having a car wash to help raise money for a terminally ill dog.

Another is having a hot dog stand to help raise money for new toys and beds.

If nothing else just stop in and offer to walk a dog. The 20 minutes or so you spend one on one with a shelter dog is so special to that dog. Anything you give them is more then they have a simple hug and pet on the head is all they hope for. I can not tell you how it changes a dog after a volunteer spends a few minutes with the dog. The spark in his eyes is back he holds his tail a little higher. Just stop in and spend a little time with one it will change you forever.

Talk to the animal shelter manager and ask. Maybe you can organize a dogfood and catfood drive similar to the food drives for the food pantries. Maybe you could involve some speaker and the admission would be one can of dogfood or catfood. Maybe talk to a radio station morning show to see if they can help or a TV station. Many times they have public service messages devoted to worthwhile causes.

You cannot do anything without  the animal shelter&#039;s permission. Why not stop in there and ask how you can help.  good luck
