Question:

Funneling Cervix...?

I am 28 weeks and 5 days pregnant with my second child. The doctors told me at 20 weeks that I have a funneling cervix. The length of my cervix is fine, but it is funneling. Is that a cause for concern? Does anyone have any experience with a case like this? I am being monitored by my doctor every few weeks, but I was just wondering if this is something that can be stopped.

  1. We just found out that this is the reason that she was having miss-carries .  They gave her a stitch to hold the baby and told her that she had to be on bed-rest for at least 34 wks.  We see the Dr. once a wk. She is at 30 wks. This would be her first , my third .

I think that you are to far along for the stitch but I agree with Garrett's mom that you should stay off your feet as much as possible .

I will say a prayer for you and the baby . Good Luck !

  2. I have this problem in all of my pregnancies, and it is diagnosed as an incompetent cervix.  My advice to you is stay off of your feet on bedrest as much as you can if your doctor hasn't already put you on it (which I would be in shock if they didn't put you on bedrest for this).  Funneling usually won't go away without bedrest.  For me, I had to have a vaginal cerclage placed in my second pregnancy at 11 weeks with strict hospital bedrest.  For my third pregnancy I had to have an abdominal cerclage placed pre-pregnancy because of the severity of my incompetent cervix.  The good news is, if you have made it to 28w5d then your cervix isn't in as bad of shape as a lot of women with this condition, and you are now past viability.  You could easily make it to full term with a funneling cervix, but definitely keep the pressure off of your cervix as much as you can.  Good luck!!
