  1. one day my koi fish was hyper active, swimming everywhere at lighning speed.i thought maybe it was sick...but it was freaking out because one of  algae eaters was sucking on him!

  2. My betta Henry was really excited around feeding time ( he acts like I never feed him ) and he would jump out of the water in an attempt to get the food faster he looks like a dolphin. And one time he didn't make it back into the water and I had to save him from my kitty. Henry was ok and he is nearing his 1 year birthday, yeah.

  3. Similar situation as yours. I woke up one morning and had a wet floor. My tank was 75% full. I checked the air pump to make sure it wasn't loose and siphoning water out and when I went to check the filter, my fingers felt the crack. It was in the back glass and slowly seeping. It was a ten gallon aquarium that I had on a fairly rigid bookshelf, but after time the wood started to bow. Unfortunately, the glass did not. I slid the tank toward an edge to help ease the stress on the tank and get it off of the long unsupported span. It was a hectic trip to find a tank and stand before the whole thing gave way. I finally found a 29 gallon deluxe setup and a stand that I could afford. I had to cough up about half of a weeks pay to cover the cost, but I still have the tank and stand after five years and one complete apartment move.

The best fish accident was when my crab escaped and wandered into my roommates room. He was with my girlfriend's cousin and they were probably doing something... There was a scream as she saw this crab scuttling across the rug and a bit more as it ran into a pile of clothes. Except these were the clothes they were just wearing, so now they needed a crab wrangler and had to look rather sheepish hiding under a blanket as I grabbed the little feller and put him back in the tank.

  4. I don't know about an "accident", but I have a goofy fish story.

I got the goldfish bug after my family insisted on having live goldfish in bowls during a luau (yuck).  Of course I rescued all the fish after the party.  I had names for each one before I ever made it home.  Even though I loved each one, some didn't make it.  To ease my loss, I searched for just the right one.  I really liked the shubunkins and oddly colored comets.  I knew I could only get one or two more, so I was VERY picky about getting just the right one.  I got completely obsessed with it, checking out every goldfish within a 3 hour drive.  I visited dozens of Petsmarts, Petcos, and privately owned pet shops - and Walmarts.  My boyfriend went with me, but failed to truly understand my obsession.  I was 2 and a half hours from home, armed with ice chest and conditioned transport water.  Then I found her.  She was a beautiful, 28 cent feeder fish at a Petsmart.  That day, I spent $40 in gas and drove nearly 300 miles for a 28 cent goldfish.

She was "the one" - her name is Zen and today she is living the good life.

  5. the funniest moment i have ever had was me and my oscar was playing ping pong (took weeks to train him but he got it down) and so i was showing my freinds our trick and on accident (i guess he was excited or something) i threw the ball and while it was in mid air he jumped out of the tank lol but he was fine (put him back in the tank after he jumped out)

  6. My favorite thing about fish is that they are born smart and they die stupid. If you think about it, it really is true! When fish are born they are smart enough to allready know how to swim and they can avoid being eaten long enough to grow into an adult. When fish grow old however, they do stupid stuff; for example...

One day my balloon molly ate a peice of poo, and then spit it out because she didn't like it, then she forgot that she didn't like it, and ate it it again, and she spat it out again, and the whole thing kept repeating itself because she couldn't remember that she didn't like the taste of her poo!

Another time was when I fed my fish some squash and the only fish that figured out that it was food were the baby fish. The big fish just kept swimming around looking for food while the baby fish swarmed the squash and ate it!

So that is why I think that fish are born smart and die stupid.

Another funny story is when I went and bought an african cichlid. I picked out a black striped one but when we were driving home, I noticed that it was the wrong fish! It was brown! So then we had to drive all the way back to petsmart to get the right fish. The petsmart worker put my fish back in and all of a sudden it started turning black again! I took the same fish and got back in the car. It turned brown again! I figured out that it changed colors when it was stressed. However, I didn't enjoy making the unnesessary trip back to the pet store!

My last story is that one time I had a bamboo shrimp and it was just chillin' when it arched its back, lifted its tail, and scrached its butt with its back legs!!!

  7. when i was tiny we had a huge fantail goldfish and he lived YEARS! we went away for the week and asked my neighbors to look after it.. when we got back there was a tiny goldfish in the tank and was clearly diffrent we asked them what had happened and we were told that there son had decided the tank was dirty and so emptyed it into a bucket and cleaning the glass with soap.... then put the fish and water back in.. the next moring our fish was floating....

Funny part of the story is my next door neighbors son was 38 at the time...... and was still living at home 5 days a week!

  8. My male betta was afraid of me when he was building his bubble nest, every time I walked past him when he was working on his nest,he would swim as fast as his little fishy fins would take him under his little bridge.

  9. This once happen to other girl's fish not mine. She turned off the light when she went to bed and second morning she woke up, one of her fish's eye has dropped, the fish was still fine as usual.

  10. my sister decided to feed my mollies, she was 3 at the time, she poured all of the food in a pile on my desk, took the fish out, and rolled them all in the food, they were completely covered with fish food, i asked her what she was doing and she said " fishy looked hungry, so i feeded him" with a big smile on her face, the fish were fine ( thank goodness )

  11. when i was getting new guppies, i was trying to net them out.. petsmart closes them so tight! so i ripped it open fast and they went in the toilet!!!ew!
