  1. This isn't a story about my horse doing something intending to be funny - but it is a funny story.

My horses are pastured in an old orchard on our farm.  One old Morgan gelding LOVES apples.  He'll be standing in the barnyard and hear and apple drop out in the orchard and he goes trotting out to find it.  In the fall you'll see him walking around looking for apples.

I came home one evening to do the chores and found him acting really strange - like nothing my 41 years have ever encountered.  It was like he wanted to eat, but ate very slowly and when he walked he drug his hind feet around.  After feeding them, I watched him after I turned them back out with their hay.  He'd go stand by his buddy and hang his head.  I was very worried as he wasn't collicking, but couldn't figure it out.  Since he was picking up hay and eating, I knew he couldn't be that bad off - he'd meander about and get a little drink then pick up a bit of hay but was not in obvious distress.  I stayed out with him until about 10 pm, and as he was seeming to improve I decided to go to bed and see what the next day brought.  The next morning he was the same, but better - he ate faster and was more his normal self.  He still didn't hog his food down like he usually does and he picked at his hay and looked at me like he was terribly tired.  So I called the vet and told them the situation - she asked if he'd been able to get into anything he normally wouldn't have and I told her the only thing non-ordinary he could have had was the apples from the orchard.  She told me to take his temp and call her back because the only thing it sounded like was Potomac Fever.  So I took his temp and called back.  The temp was normal.  So then the vet was in the office and he was there with the helper gal - I could hear them talking about what to do - then the vet seemed to make a connection as he's been to our house a few times - he asked me some questions and then told me the horse had gotten drunk.

By that time the horse was pretty much back to normal gobbling his food and chasing others around but still kinda tired acting.

the vet said what happens is that if a horse gets too many apples in their gut, they will start to ferment and actually cause an effect like drunkeness until they pass through the gut.

It all made perfect sense and now I understand how he was feeling when he was drunk and with his hangover....

  2. 1) he's not my horse, but close enough lol. At riding camp, we have fun week. one day we were playing musical bags. Its like musical chairs, but we use feed bags for the horse to step on. We have this one horse that never has his ears up, idk we thought he was depressed or something. it was his first musical bag game and wen he was brought up the bag he stopped short, front legs perfectly straight, neck arched, ear up soo much they couldnt have been pushed back haha it was the cutest thing ever!

    2) there was a horse that would jump the shadows. so a line 5 strides a part with a shadow inbetween would be taken as: jump stride stride jump ( shadow ) stride stride jump lol

when i put my splint boots and bell boots on the fence after riding this one horse he would slide it back and forth using his nose

  3. my mates pony(toby) has a best friend called benji and toby was grooming this other pony midge though the fence and benji got jealous and went up to midge and tryed to bite him. it was really funny

  4. well i dont have a horse of my own but when i used to take lessons the horse i was ridin name was kiki and he was a dapple grey beautiful paso fino gelding and one day i was ridin him and i thought he might want a drink so i lead him to the water bucket and he dipped his nose in and started to blow bubbles and splashed the water up in the air and like was spinning his nose in a circle and alot of other crazy stuff i had never seen a horse do before it was so hilarious i was about to fall out of the sadddle i was laughing so hard and when i tried to pull him away from it he wouldnt budge so my trainer acually had to manually move him away from the bucket and started him into a quarto!!

haHa it made my day =) -chelsea!!

  5. George, the PP gelding we bottle raised, is a thief.  He steals tools my hubs leaves laying around...a glove, chalk line...takes it into his mouth and hoofs it.

As a foal he would play "hide and seek" with hubby and will still hunt for him if he hides and calls his name.

If you set your drink down, he'll grab the soda bottle with his teeth and drink from it.  I love this guy.

  6. I have a gelding that will pick up his grain bowl (you know those black rubber ones) and chase the other horses, smacking them with it.  They get quite mad at him, but he'll do it for about half an hour straight.

He will pick anything up in his mouth though...halters, hoses, troughs, tank heaters, brushes...and then he usually drags them through the mud.  I can't have nice things...LOL

  7. A few years ago I had a horse that was sick. The vet came out and we were working with him. One of my other horses, named Bubba came over to me and started putting his big ol head on my shoulder, under my arm, down my leg, and just about everything else you can think of. I turned to him and said, "Bubba, go on now, I'm busy." He just kept on, so I slapped him on the butt and told him to go on again. I had dropped his halter and lead rope about 20 feet away. He dropped his head and started walking away. So I'm thinking, "Oh gosh, I hurt his feelings". R I g H T! He went over and picked up the halter and lead rope in his mouth and brought it over to me just slinging his head. My vet nearly passed out laughing.

  8. I love playing with my horse's lip. She always hangs her bottom lip and then smacks it together when I touch her muzzle..i think its so cute.

  9. My mare April looks funny in this picture.  She is lovable and will be your best friend for a treat. When we worm the horses, she thinks its something good to eat and will come and get her dose. Sometime we say she's as dumb as an ox, but we love her.

Here she is with her daughter storm.

  10. Hello,

Well, we have 11 horses here.  And YES they are all funny in different ways!

McCue my daughters 1D barrel horse would smack his lips when he sees my daughter come out side!

Classy my other daughters 1D barrel horse stretches her front leg straight out when you feed her!

Hollywood my 16 hand paint your can stand on, walk under, ride backwards, slide off of his rump and anything else you so desire...HE is so broke for a 7 year old!

Joe a rope horse you can ride a trail ride on him, turned backwards to chat with everyone else on.  Stand up on, slide down off his butt, walk under, etc....

We spend hours at a time on the trail, about 4-6!  We love to take out our horses and s***w around on them...they have HOURS and MILES on them all.  They are all funny when we do our "dumb-***" cowboy tricks on them!  The usually look at us like okay...if that is what you want...LOL
