Funny smell coming from ?

What i going on with my washing machine? I moved into a new house in June and immediately noticed a moldy smell from the washer. After a few hot water & bleach loads the smell does go away slightly, but it's still there. If I leave a load in there more then 30 minutes, my clothes smell horrible! I have never had this problem with any other house I have lived in. What could it be?

  1. Try some drops of eucalyptus oil in the spin cycle of an empty load, and leave the lid open when your not using it as well. It should help with the smell.

  2. Run Bi Carb Soda through a cycle which will clean the pipes and pump valves without damage to the system. If it is a front loader they do have a tendancy to have a stale smell in them.Try this in either way it may fix your problem.

Mix half cup of Bi Carb with water and add in to the machine and let it run through a cycle.

    PS Nice Puppy!

  3. DON'T BUY A NEW WASHER YET!!!!

It could be a couple of things. First, there could be a small piece of clothing stuck between the drum and the drum casing.  You can call someone to come take it apart and check, or if you or someone you know is handy, they can do it for you.  Also, if hot+bleach isn't doing it, go to the detergent aisle at your local walmart or wherever and there is a soap solution specifically for dirty washers.  Try this.  If this fails, there is a website --mysmellywasher.com or mystinkywasher.com and there are some tips on there.  Good luck!

  4. I really am no expert on washing machines but I did read an article about people having problems with mould after switching to 30 c temperature washes to save energy.

The usual temperature wasn't enough to kill anything that may grow.

The article said the solution to this was to run a 100c wash once a month to sort of sterilise the machine.

Perhaps you could try a couple of very hot washes?

  5. It's mold, time for a new washer. There is a small leak somewhere.

  6. Is the discharge on the drain line up higher than it used to be in your old house?

  7. Water not draining completely out of the basin. After clothes are done, always leave your lid open for any excess water to dry. Plus it prevents unnecessary rust formation. Really it sounds like your water is not draining completely from your basin. Can you try a load with no clothes, to see if it drains all the way? When you moved it possibly something got screwed up. Check your drainage line, for any kinks or sharp bends. While you are there check your input lines as well to make sure it is getting all the water it should. You never know with these things it can be a combination of both.

  8. I have a front load washer and if the lid is not always open It will end up stinking like mold as well.  Nothing worse then have towels smelling like mold.  Anyway every couple of weeks I run a hot rinse with a couple of cups of vinegar and it helps to keep it sweet smelling.  Use alot the first time though to get rid of the smell.
