Question:

Fur Elise grade?

I have no piano lessons with other people. I just made my own self study. And I can read the notes on the staff but sometimes it takes seconds when they are in the eighth notes! So I just one by one look at the notes and try to memorize the fingering skills of fur elise. So what is my grade level then!

  1. Well, it doesn't really work like that.

"Grade levels" in music aren't like grade levels in math or English (i.e. 6th or 7th grade, etc.).  There are different things to learn at each ability level, things like music theory, sight reading, musicality, and technique.  There's nothing wrong with teaching yourself sight reading, but there's more that goes into each "level" of instruction in music instruction.

It's great that you're taking that on, though!  Fur Elise is a beautiful piece, and a lot of fun to play.  It will also help you with some basic skills needed to learn to play other pieces.  Have fun with it, your diligence will pay off!

  2. I'm not sure - and that piece can be played in different levels of difficulty. My child played it her first year taking piano lessons, but I'm certain there are more complex versions too.  Good for you for teaching yourself how to play!!
