Furcal and Billingsley shine as Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the San Francisco Giants 4-3 – MLB Update
Short-stop for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Rafael Furcal, made a single in the sixth inning to help the Dodgers to a 4-3 victory against the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium, on 1
April. The Dodgers took their second continuous win against the defending World Series Champions, the Giants.
Furcal made an RBI single against the relief pitcher Guillermo Mota after Jonathan Sanchez started and led the team. Sanchez offered just four runs with two earned runs and seven hits over five innings. He had three walks and eight strike-outs.
The Dodgers’ starter Chad Billingsley permitted three runs and five hits in six innings with four strike-outs and one walk. He recently inked a three-year agreement with the Dodgers and enhanced his Win-Loss record to 5-1 with an Earned run average of 1.37
over the Giants.
Billingsley was then replaced by hard-hitting Hector Gimenez, who made runs to left field off the mound. Rod Barajas posted a tie run off Sanchez’s faulty pitch. Barajas made a single, as Aaron Miles got an infield hit off Pablo Sandoval.
Sanchez was also disappointed by his fault and said, “I went too fast on that play and I just missed it. That cost us the game. But that's baseball. We're not perfect. We're going to make errors.”
The Dodgers’ Manager Don Mattingly commented on how Billingsley rebounded in the next inning and struck out three hitters in no time. The Dodgers started their account with Matt Kemp’s double to left-centre field position, having two outs in the third inning.
Speaking to reporters, Kemp said, “I was just trying to make some things happen. My instincts were on point today. That's one thing we talked about in spring training. Everybody is trying to get that extra base.”
Kemp scored on the sacrifice fly of James Loney and made a single on Marcus Thames' sluggish throw to third base. The Dodgers took the lead from a two-run shortfall by making three runs in the sixth inning. Jonathan Broxton, the closer for the Dodgers threw
an ideal ninth inning to get his second save.
Brandon Belt attained his first hit of the Major Leagues in his starting game. In the last game, he struck three home runs to centre field spot against Billingsley in the fourth inning to provide the Giants a 3-1 lead. After giving ease to some batters,
Billingsley bounced back rapidly.
The Giants have not had a single win in the 2011 Major League Baseball regular season after losing to the Dodgers. They troubled the Giants in the first game due to same errors which they did in the last game. The Giants’ Manager Bruce Bochy was not happy
with the team’s performance in the last two games.
