The furminator tool is just like a small blade.  It is very easy to burn your pet if you concentrate to long in one area.   My rule when using the tool is hold the skin forward on the pet and use the tool like you would a brush. This way when you bring the tool down the back of the pet the skin is taunt.  (do not use excessive force just a gentle pull forward on the skin.)  Also do not push on the furminator tool. Let it do all of the work.  Move to tool down the back in the same position 3 times and move the tool.  Never use the tool in the same spot more than 3 times in a row or you may burn your pet!  Never ever furminate under the belly,  because of the pets nipples.  On a LH chi the hair seems densest  on the neck and the hind quarters.  There is also a shampoo solution you can buy that helps the tool remove more hair.  I hope this helps!
