So, I bought a chair, a night stand, and a lamp from goodwill, should I do anything to clean them before I start using them? The chair is going to be re-fabriced. Considering hte old fabric is really ugly, but it was super comfortable and only $15, and I can always donate them back if need be, advice?

  1. First off, I do not see why you would worry so much about

obtaining furniture from Goodwill, and apart from giving it a

good  cleaning that you would do on anything second hand,

you should not worry too much.

The furniture is donated to Goodwill usually

from very well to do families, not from lower income people.

But, as always, you should give everything second hand a

good cleaning, no matter what. Other than that, enjoy

finding something so comfortable at such a great price!

  2. since you're getting it re-fab, change the filling/padding also.  if that's not possible, use a steamer to kill any dust mites or odor causing bacteria.  if you don't have a steamer, use a microbial spray to kill bacteria.

  3. I would just wipe over with a cloth. If the chair is going to be recovered than I can't see any problems. Even if it wasn't you could spray with Lysol to kill most germs but you sit in chairs in hotels and lots of others do so it should be safe... :)
