Question:

Further to yesterday's Q about Pakistan's safety issues?

Bingalee's question yesterday concerning the safety of visiting players for the ICC Champions Trophy was interesting, but news of a further bombing in Lahore seems to have thrown the whole question of the series into doubt. A suicide bomber blew himself up & killed another seven people in front of a police station. Added to that, the Taliban has threatened to have suicide bombers in the two cricket cities Lahore and Karachi during the playing of the series. Do you still say visiting players will be safe?

  1. I saw the article you mentioned & it very chilling indeed.Hope they see sense & move it, but I think arrogance & greed will overcome caution in this instance.

  2. No i do not feel any of our players will be safe..

New Zealand have just made comment that they too are uncomfortable and do not think it is safe..

In the article is says what about getting all the 8 teams to practise?..It is not just the matches but the players are meant to be practicing all around Pakistan too..

The sooner they call this Tournament off the better 'most' of us will feel..

And the user that has posted c**p about Sri Lanka,is really making me laugh. If his precious Indian boys were caught up in the middle of any conflict in Pakistan would call all out war upon them if anything happened,i think he should stop talking through his buttocks..

    Black caps UN-convinced,Pakistan is Safe!!

  3. best thing is shoaib akhter is back for pakistan can't wait too see him in action

  4. I wish I shared Oz's optimism! But I don't, & this new bombing only makes it all the more obvious that the tournament should have gone to SL or SA. I do feel for the Pakis, they want this to go ahead for sure, but just supposing multiple foreign players were targetted and killed by bombers. How then would Pakistan ever hold it's head up again? How would they compensate those countries involved for the loss of their teams & how would they atone to the children & families of the players? Has anyone actually thought about that?

  5. further to numerous discussions on the issue, all i want to say is , when there is an issue of national prestige involved, nations are bound to extremities to retain their image in international community ! Pakistan will never allow terrorism to raise heads during th champs trophy , may be for that even if they have to have security of military and police forces togethor, hope you undertstand the point of national prestige at stake!

can u give the link of the Taliban statements, Taliban are themselves a hidden entity after bush barged into afghanistan!

    regards!

  6. there wont be any interruptions from security issues in pakiatan ,surely

  7. Pakistan is not safe for the Champions Trophy. The ICC should know this by now. Political unrest and terrorism is strong in that country and will do anything. It is unsafe to send any team their not just Australia, England or South Africa as they all will be targeted. Australia, England, South Africa and New Zealand have all said that they won't tour Pakistan and this is a good decision I believe. The lives of cricketers is more important than some Tournament. If the ICC hold the Champion's Trophy in Pakistan and the tournament does go ahead, this will prove to the world how weak the ICC really is and that they don't care about the wellbeing of their cricketers.

But we should feel sorry for Pakistan. They have a really good cricket public. Politics and terrorism is tearing the country apart. We all wish that the Tournament could be held in there but they should understand that it is unsafe. Terrorists will target cricketers especially cricketers from Australia and England.
