Fuse Question ????????????????????????

The problem i am having is si that the fuse that goes to my cigarette lighter keeps blowing out every time i but the lighter back in after i am done using my cell phone charger.........can replacing the lighter solve this problem and what it i put a different fuse (of than the 15 watts it says goes in that place) in that spot...what would happen?

  1. Sounds Like your lighter element is internally shorted. Try a new one.

    Also fuses are rated in amps, not watts.


  2. very common problem. if you look at the current requirement to charge that cell phone you will find that the amp rating on your phone is more than the fuses capability. if you go to a larger fuse you run the risk of burning up the wires that supply the lighter with power. the lighter it self should not blow the original strength fuse. if it does then you have another electrical problem. and it is a 15 amp fuse NOT WATTS, that is something totally different. amps is current flow. watts is voltage times amps.

  3. sure! just go to auto zone and ask for a cigarette lighter, the whole works, but it sounds more like a bad wire. fuses are called amps, not watts. besides your charger might take a bigget or smaller amp then the lighter.

  4. Check with your handbook on the amperage of the fuse thats meant to be in there and dont go over it.It will only lead to further trouble in the wiring or worse still, a fire.It may well be that its been changed by someone before and the wrong 1 is in.Good luck!!
