Futcher, Shinn and Stanford compete well at HSBC Women's Champions
Katie Futcher, Jenny Shin and Angela Stanford are competing well against each other in an effort to reach the top position at HSBC Women’s Champions.
The third phase of the tournament is in process and amazing performances can be seen at the Tanah Merah Country Club, Garden Course in Singapore.
Stanford started the tournament with a lead over her rivals. She scored a 6-under 66 on Thursday, first round. Her performance was the best among all, as she carded a bogey-free score.
Shin and Futcher also played well and scored a 3-under 69. Their impressive performance took them to the second-position tie, as they were just three strokes behind the leader.
Futcher was also bogey-free, but Shin finished her first round with many ups and downs. Scoring three birdies and an eagle was tremendous, but two bogeys took her down.
On Friday, Futcher and Shin improved their strokes and displayed amazing performances in the second round. They scored an 8-under 67 and shared the first position with Stanford.
Stanford was unable to score plenty of birdies and only delivered three. Similarly, a bogey was also there, she added only -2 to her scores.
"When I started today, I knew that I didn't quite have that much energy, and so at least I'm starting to recognize it a little earlier in the round," Stanford said. "I felt more tired this morning and the heat didn't help right off the bat".
Stanford’s average performance was matched by Shin and Futcher, who made six impressive birdies and a bogey as well. They added -5 to their scores and tied with Stanford by -8.
"My putting has been great the last two days so I'm happy to be where I'm at," Shin said.
"I'm very, very satisfied," Futcher said. "Went out, made a great putt on No. 1 today for par, and that kind of really just got me settled and I was able after that to hit it pretty close and make a couple of putts".
Yani Tseng, the current no. 1 golfer, is standing fifth on the leaderboard. She stared from the 20th and reached the 5th. She is four strokes behind the leader, as she scored 6-under par.
She was seen struggling on Thursday, but displayed tremendous performance on Friday to reach the higher position.
The third round is in process and the tough battle will continue till Sunday, February 26, 2012.
