Future Firefighter?

I wanna be a firefighter near the future and im only in the 8th grade but I've wanted to be one since I was like 5. Now is the time to really start thinking about it because next year i'll be in High School and I wanna know how much they make and what exactly they have to do. Like I know they put out fires lol but what else happens in the day when there is no fire? And what classes should I take in High School? All everything you can tell me about Firefighting.

The pay is probably $38,000 to $50,000+.  You have to know how to do everything that a para-medic does--how to use life saving equipment and you  must be in really good shape--no cigarettes, pot, illegal drugs and you must be mature, a mind set that avoids unnecessary risk taking, a willingness to obey orders, no matter what.

In their spare time, they study to further themselves in their chosen profession.  They work out to get stronger, not to build muscles.  I think they are on 24 hour call for two weeks then they are off two weeks
