Future Hall of Famer Chipper Jones spends time hunting - MLB Update
Former third baseman for Atlanta Braves, Chipper Jones takes trips to various parts of the country for hunting. Jones is fond of going on adventures in places where animals like deer live. As he is not a regular Major League player now, he has ample time
to participate in such activities.
Jones took retirement at the end of the last season. He played with the Braves for 19 Major League seasons.
His amazing success as a quality slugger for the team earned him the status of being a future Hall of Famer. Even in the season after which he departed Major League Baseball, his performance was terrific.
In-fact, he was the most prolific batter in the Braves’ line-up. Even at the age of 40, his ability to strike home-runs and make substantial offensive contributions was intact. On a number of occasions, he led the Braves to numerous wins single-handedly.
While the experts believed that Jones was still capable of playing for a couple of more seasons, he signed off citing his desire to spend time with family.
Jones loves his sons immensely and he wants to stay with them for performing his fatherly duties affectively.
He holds the view that the way he was looked after by his own father, he has not accorded the same treatment to his sons. Thus, the retirement was the only way he could do justice with the requirements of being a father.
Talking about his routine during the offseason when he was the regular team player, Jones has explained that after enjoying hunting for a first few months, he used to begin thinking about baseball by the start of the next year.
Furthermore, he elaborated that during Spring Training he would participate in light baseball activities before getting ready for the regular season.
“Usually, around the end of January, I start getting the itch to go back and start playing,” Jones said. “That’s probably when I need to go on a trip somewhere. I’ll just have to get away and not read the newspaper and not watch TV, and just kind of let
them get started without me. I’m sure I’ll make an appearance down in spring training, just to play some golf and hang out for about a week. After that, I’m going to leave it up to them.”
Certainly, Jones is making the most of the leisure time by fulfilling his passion for hunting.
There is a possibility that down the line when Jones feels that he has enjoyed the hunting enough, he may like to return to baseball in the form of being a coach or in some other capacity.
If Jones shows interest in this regard, the Braves will most probably be willing to give him some role in the team.
