I am a freshman in highschool right now and I am pretty sure I want to become a vet. I get really good grades and I am taking all honors classes, so I don't think my grades will be a problem. I think that I want to go to either Clemson or USC. Has anyone gone to either of these schools to be a vet? Whats is it really like to be a vet? Was the schooling hard? How hard was it to get into a vet school?

  1. No I'm not a vet, but I've heard that Clemson is a good vet school.

However if you want the best in the Carolinas, NC State has the best vet school around.

One of my friends graduated 3 years ago, and JUST got into vet school, so it is very competitive.  You will have to work very hard to impress and then pray that you did enough.  My friend said the classes started off easy, but by his senior year he was doing all he could just to keep his A average up.  So you have to be dedicated to your studies.

I wanted to be a vet my freshman year too...until I realized that I am way too emotionally attached to animals to be able to do my job right.  Not to mention science and all that are not my favorite subjects.  So now I'm becoming a journalist.  Best of luck!

  2. Are you prepared to give an animal a shot to make it die? Possibly for no better reason than the owners are sick of it?

That's what stopped me from being a vet.

Yes it's very hard. You go to school practically as long as a person doctor. Don't know about the schools you mentioned, but if you have fantastic grades I'm sure you could get in anywhere. They are lowering the bar all the time.
