Montpellier Herault striker, Olivier Giroud’s future at the Ligue 1 side is still subject to many conditions with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Newcastle United interested in the France international
While talking to Midi Libre yesterday, Montpellier Herault president, Louis Nicollin had said that he is not sure whether striker Olivier Giroud stay at the club for next season or not. With Loulou not sure about his striker’s future, the 25-year-old striker
is attracting considerable interest from major forces in Europe.
The strongman of Montpellier is aware that his club cannot afford to keep the France international. However, qualification for the UEFA Champions League next season could change all that for sure. The 25-year-old striker is also keen on playing in the Champions
League and his future may well come down on Montpellier’s chances of playing in the Champions League next season.
As things stand, La Paillade are in second place in Ligue 1 standings, only a point behind Paris Saint-Germain. This means that Giroud might choose to stay at the club a little while longer.
“I feel like playing in a big European competition, the Champions League. Whether Montpellier participates in it or not will be important in may decision and for the rest of my career. Here, I really blossomed.”
Giroud’s sentiments would certainly be appreciated by Nicollin who us still cautious with his words when it comes down to the prolific striker’s future.
“I met Giroud and his agents a few weeks ago. We know where we are going and what will be done. All is clear between us. We want to keep him. If he is intelligent and wants to do another year for us, that would be good.”
However, Loulou has also said that if Giroud plays for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 in the European Championship this summer, the club might be forced to sell him.
Though he is keen to hold on to the mercurial striker, Nicollin claims that he will not be a stumbling block in the striker’s way if a big club comes calling.
“If he wants to go to a big club and we find our interest, we cannot keep him against his will.”
That ball is in Giroud’s court and his future still unclear but the player is still expected to continue with his Midas touch that has done so well for his team so far.
