Fyrstenberg/Matkowski blow away Robredo/Tursunov in round two – Shanghai Rolex Masters 2011
Seeded at number six in the tournament draw, the Polish duo of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski registered an easy victory against the unseeded Spanish-Russian combination of Tommy Robredo and Dmitry Tursunov, in the second round of the Shanghai
Rolex Masters.
Being played on the outdoor hard courts of the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena in Shanghai, China, the contest witnessed an excellent display of sheer dominance from the sixth seeded duo. Fyrstenberg and Matkowski wrapped up victory in straight sets, 6-1,
6-2, in the most authoritative fashion to make a place in the quarter-final draw of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters Series event.
Robredo and Tursunov hung in the contest for barely 50 minutes before they had to surrender to the belligerence of the Pole opponents. They utterly failed to craft a single break opportunity in the entire matchup and held their serve in only three of the
total seven games they served. Robredo and Tursunov never appeared in any sort of control of their game in the whole contest and remain lagging far behind their competitors to finish on the losing side in the end.
The duo of Fyrstenberg and Matkowski is currently ranked at number nine in the world and it was its 15th victory of the running ATP season. The Pole competitors are still searching for their first championship title in the running year and their
form clearly suggests that they are well up for one in Shanghai.
Being the sixth seed in the doubles draw, Fyrstenberg and Matkowski received a bye to have a direct access to the second round of the tournament and faced no real challenge to outclass Robredo and Tursunov to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Fyrstenberg and Matkowski didn’t drop a single point on their serve throughout the matchup, securing all the 17 first serve points en route to victory. They had six break chances in the game and converted four of them to drive out Robredo and Tursunov from
the competition.
Fyrstenberg and Matkowski will take on the world number one duo of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan from the United States in their next round encounter on Friday afternoon, to fight for a place in the final four. The Bryan Brothers registered a comprehensive straight
sets victory 6-1, 6-4, against the combination of Marcel Granollers of Spain and Viktor Troicki of Serbia, in the second round of the Shanghai Rolex Masters.
