Fyrstenberg/Matkowski plonk Fleming/Hutchins to reach quarters – BNP Paribas Masters 2012
Polish power, Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski, made an epic comeback from a set down to overpower the British duo, Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins, in a three-set thriller at the BNP Paribas Masters 2012 on Wednesday. They nudged up a 3-6, 6-3,
10-5 victory against the Brits to solidify their position for the season-ending finale in London.
Seeded fourth in this event, Fyrstenberg and Matkowski showed superb skills to overpower the Brits for the first time in their third meeting. The players last battled each other in Kuala Lumpur earlier this circuit and after stealing this show, the Poles
comfortably advanced into the quarter-finals at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy.
The ninth ranked team of Fleming and Hutchins made quick in-roads at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters 1000 event. They drew the first blood in the sixth game and jumped to a 5-2 lead. The Brits held their serve once more and pulled
out the opener with a 6-3 score line. They swiftly kept their entire serves without facing any trouble and cashed the lone break opportunity to get in contention.  
Fyrstenberg and Matkowski re-focused their strategy in the proceeding set. They got the coveted break in the sixth game and took a 4-2 lead. Regardless of losing their edge in the very next game, the Poles broke their rivals’ serve again and eventually sealed
the equaliser by winning six games to three. They failed to block the lone breakpoint they faced but converted two out of five break chances to their advantage.
Ranked seventh in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Doubles Rankings, Fyrstenberg and Hutchins maintained their intensity in the super tie-breaker. They cruised to a 5-2 lead before clicking the decider with a 10-5 success.
On the whole, the seeds hammered 15 aces and finished the deal with 59 points to dominate. They failed to block both breakpoints they came across but capitalised on two out of five break chances to progress.
Next up for the Poles is the winner of the match between fifth seeded Indians, Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna, and the local wild card entrants, Julien Benneteau and Adrian Mannarino.
