I am a handyman. A ccutomer says her G.E washer is shocking her. I checked the wiring from the breaker box to the outlet and it seems okay. What would be a probable cause?

  1. The problem is probably in the machine itself. Do you have an outlet tester? If not...get one, they answer a lot of questions right out the gate and saves a lot of time. Check out the washer...

  2. there should be a green wire in the back going fro the chassis or outer shell to the ground wire that goes into the wall see if its there

  3. sounds like an internal wiring problem...manufacturing defect

  4. Is it sitting in water?  Try a direct ground wire from the frame to the grounded recepticle.

  5. The outlet isn't properly grounded,or not grounded at all,or someone has broken of the ground on the plug.Either way something isn't grounded.

  6. did you check the ground at the fuse box,is there a ground prong on the power cord,,check the polarity is the white and black wire crossed, finally if you have a metal pipe nearby, just ground the appliance with a jumper wire.............................tom

  7. Bry is correct. Take a wire and hook it to one of the screws on the back of the washer and then run it to something else like the dryer that has no problem and hook the other end of the wire to it and.......done !

  8. the polarity of the unit is backwards reverse the wires in the outlet i would also run a separate ground wire from a s***w on the rear of the unit to a clamp on the cold water pipe that supplies the water
