G.I. Bill transferring to dependents question...

Okay, My dad has been in the Marines 26 years. He's a Master Gunnery Sergeant.

He told me that his G.I. Bill can transfer to me and my brother in August '09. I know it pays for tuition and books and things like that, but could you use it for other expenses also, such as rent or food?

He couldn't really answer my question.

I hope you can!

  1. First, it can only be transferred to 1 person, both of you can't get it. Second, it covers tuition and fees, has a monthly stipend for housing and a $1000 per year stipend for books.

  2. Contact your local VA office or email them at www.va.gov and they will answer your question and guide you through the process

  3. Truthfully, no one knows at this time.

They still have not wrote the regulations concerning the new GI Bill.

For the old GI BILL, as long as your a full time student, you can use the money for anything you want to use it for.

More than likely, the new GI Bill will continue those rules.
