G. Kavin Kartik recalled for Project 2013 Team – Hockey Update
G. Kavin Kartik, the seasoned defender has been recalled in the Project 2013 hockey team. He was part of the Junior Malaysian line-up which contested the World Cup back in 2009, but he was dropped from the team owing to below par performances.
Kartik, the player from Negeri Sembilan displayed some outstanding performances in the start of his junior career but he failed to maintain his form and was subsequently dropped from the team. K. Dharmaraj, the Coach of the Project 2013 squad gave Kartik
along with seven other boys a chance to prove their worth. The trainer was impressed by the good performance from YNS defender in the just-concluded Razak Cup being held in Malaysian city of Malacca.
The other names who were called for the Project 2013 squad along with Kartik are Ganeisha Tamil Chelvam, Jagdev Singh, Mohd Redzhwan Jaafar, Mohd Hafiz Zainol, Mohd Aminuddin Abu, Benny Anggara Yusuf and Dangerous Lee.
Speaking to the media, Project 2013 Coach Dharmaraj stated that the eye-catching performance of Ganeisha impressed him a lot, as he was the real architect behind the victories. He had an assist to lead his team into the Division Two’s win with impressive
penalty conversions. Ganeisha was highest scorer of the Division Two with seven notches.
He stated that all the players have an equal opportunity to prove their worth for the Project 2013 team. He was of the opinion that they would provide best possible opportunities to train the players up to the modern techniques. He added, “I hope they will
give their best in training and tournaments. I also have five players training with the national senior team.”
Those five getting training for with the national line-up are Mohd Azri Hassan, Faizal Saari, Mohd Rashid Baharom, Mohd Firhan Ashaari and Faiz Helmi Jali. He had short-listed the names from 40 to 26 after reviewing their performance in the recent fixtures.
For the upcoming fixture against Japanese national team, the training camp of the national team will commence on August 7. Furthermore, the trainer was of the opinion that the players of the Project 2013 squad would be freed for the Malaysian Hockey League
(MHL) in the month of September. Interestingly, Nor Azlan Bakar and K. Gobinathan are serving as assistants of Dharmaraj.
In the upcoming task, the Project 2013 squad will contest the six-nation invitational tournament scheduled to be held from November 5 to 12. New Zealand, Australia, India, Korea and Pakistan will be the other squads of the invitational. They will also play
in the Junior Asia Cup to be held in May 2012 in hunt for booking a berth in the 2013 Junior Hockey World Cup.
