G-Mac backs Tiger in California
Graeme McDowell could not deny the aura of the former world number one after beating him in a play-off at the Chevron World Challenge, which took place at Sun City.
The world number seven won the Chevron World Challenge after chasing Tiger Woods for four consecutive rounds. He finished second in each round, but managed to cut the trip of Tiger’s lead in the play-off.
Graeme could not help but praise the former world number one, who struggled throughout the season, and finally managed to live up to his name. Graeme said, “I think he can play his way back into having that mystique again. There
is no doubt. He just has to do the talking with his golf clubs now. He used to appear invincible. Of course, he has made himself appear more human in the last 12 months. At the end of the day, we're all humans and we all make mistakes and we all hit bad golf
shots.”
He further added that he envied Tiger’s game, which was unmatchable in the past. He termed his game as special and acclaimed that he was expecting Tiger’s mystique to return.
Graeme’s claim might turn out to be true. Tiger suffered a lot in the past, owing to his divorce. His worst performance was at the US PGA Championship and WGC Bridgestone Invitational where he was basically invisible. However,
ever since the FedEx Cup, the former world number one revived his swings and managed top eight finishes in several events. Tiger’s best performance was seen in California where he held the lead until the last moment. Despite losing the title to Graeme in a
play-off, Tiger did not let his sportsman spirit fail and congratulated his opponent.
The way things are heading, chances are that Tiger will come back to where he once stood. This is what the winner of the US Open believes. He gave his example while talking to the press.
He said, “I've had an up-and-down career. Plenty of ups and plenty of downs. I have always figured myself as a pretty fast learner. I have learned a lot from my down times, from my hard years. I have worked very hard the last three
or four years and made some big decisions in my life, caddies and management and equipment companies. I feel like I earned my stripes a little bit, and I felt like a year like this one has been coming. Obviously, the script this year has been pretty amazing.
I did not quite foresee it being this amazing. But I really I felt like I had some big golf in me this year, and it's been amazing to be able to do it."
Graeme was the runner-up during last years event, while Woods took a withdrawal, owing to the injuries he sustained in the car accident. However, the current year proved lucky for the golfer, who hails from Northern Ireland. The
31-year-old won the US Open and later grabbed three more titles by the year end. Moreover, he finished second in the Race to Dubai and surged up in ranking.
Despite winning the title for Chevron World Challenge, Graeme McDowell believes that Tiger Woods performed extremely well in the 54-hole session and accepted that the veteran gave him a tough competition. He backed the former world
number one and said that he envied his game and believed that very soon the legendary Woods will strike back with his powerful aura.
2010 is about to fold it’s wings, which gives way to a notion that chances are that bad times in the career of Woods are about to come to an end. Even if they do not, one thing is certain that Tiger has made a good fan following
within the golf fraternity, which is a positive sign for next year.
