G. Rosea (Rose Hair) Tarantula Behavior/ Other things?

Okay so I just got a Rose Hair, so I am deciding to ask all about it's behavior.

First off what does it mean if the Rose Hair Paces? Because I see that all over the web saying if your tarantula is pacing that is bad, but I don't know what it means.

Rose hairs are suppose to be still for most of the time right?

If a Rose hair is about 6 months old how big should it be (female)?

If the Rose hair is about an inch how old is it (female)?

I don't have a humidity measurer so What I do is make sure the substrate is moist enough that if you pinch it, it will clump. (Will that be good enough for the humidity?)

Should I mist the cage? (Yes, I already know that they don't like misting so I never spray it on her.. just where ever she isn't.)

Where can I go to buy some more substrate, a better dish, and a log?

(Some where that sells these for a good price)

  1. An inch long Rosea is probably over a year old, but, that varies a lot by how quickly they ate and how much they ate. I have one that is a 1.5 years old and not quite an inch. They are a very slow growing species.

Rose Hairs are from one of the driest climates on earth. The substrate should not be damp at all. That would explain why your rose hair is pacing, it's very uncomfortable in it's surroundings. At one inch, you can give it a tiny dish for water so that you can leave the substrate dry but still provide drinking water. For a one inch spiderling, I use those gallon jug caps from water or milk as a drinking dish. I only mist my adult rose hairs a couple times a year to simulate some rain fall in spring so they know what time of year it is.

Spiderlings that are too small to have a dish do need to be misted, but, only about once a week. Rose hairs, being from an arid climate, are more likely to get fungal infections of the book lungs from high humidity conditions. The humidity in your home is probably already higher then what the rose hair would experience in the wild.
