Question:

GA Adoption in 2003?

Does anyone know of a way to find records of adoptions? I know it's a long shot but I had a baby boy in 2003 and know absolutely nothing about the adoptive parents. I do not want to infringe on their lives or even meet face to face necessarily. I just wish I had known more about them at the time. I was so young and didn't realize what I was doing. This was all back in 2003 in Georgia. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  1. I am so sorry!   I hope you are bracing yourself, there are some real nasties here who don't think much of mothers of adoption loss.

I hope you have a support network, I'm sure the good people here will have some links for you but in the meantime, take care of yourself

  2. Oh my heart goes out to you. I am not sure about there but here, Alberta Canada, I am not allowed any info until my son is 18. My n-mom was given vague non-id info when I was around 7 though so maybe the agency would be willing to at least give you that much.

I suggest talking with whoever did the adoption, some places are better than others though so that isn't a certainty.

Maybe an n-mom support group would be more help. Try http://www.origins-usa.org/

  3. try facebook or myspace

  4. No real advice, I am sorry for your loss...

I wish you would have known more 4 years ago too, and I wish your baby still had you. I think of my mother every day and have for as long as I can remember.

Please help spread the word that adoption is a permanent solution to a temporary situation. By sharing your story to other women who were once in your position, maybe you can save others the pain you feel.

  5. I would say to you as a mom (birth mom) the desire to know is very real and not out of the ordinary..

I would first contact the court records office in Georgia, for the adoption would be on file.. Then you have to see if the records were sealed or not!!

If they are sealed then you have to sign a letter asking for the information to be released and the adoptive parents have to sign also!!

This is diffuclt for most adoptive parents think that the birth mom wants the baby back!! So tred lightly!! You can also put on record that you are willing to meet the baby when it(he/she) starts looking for you!!

I think that other then a private investagator would be the only option!!

    Good luck and God Bless!!

  6. If the adoption was through a private agency, you can contact them and they will give you "non-identifying" information about the adoptive parents, unless you had agreed to an open adoption.  Then, you can have all information available.

If you placed through an attorney, the same applies.  Contact them.

If you placed privately, then you will not likely have any recourse for contact.

If CPS placed your child, then you will have no recourse for contact or info.

You may also contact Georgia Adoption Registry, but it would likely be years before you would be contacted (when your child is 18).

    Good luck.
