  1. It depends where about in Somerset you are- it's a county, not a place. If you think of it like America, Somerset would be a state. Within the county, there are cities, towns and villages.

Look at this page for more info on the county http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somerset or this page for a list of places within Somerset http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pla...

Bath is probably the largest city in Somerset (although not the county town- that's Taunton). It's a very pretty city with good transport links to the rest of the country.

To answer your question properly, I really need more detail.

    1) Where about in Somerset

    2) By school, do you mean 11-18 education or university?

    3) How old will you be when you're here?

Drinking age in England is 18. Driving age is 17 (at the moment).

    ---Edit---

Look at this page, then http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparkford

It's a small village with a population of 500. I agree with the poster below- you'll need a car. On the plus side, it's not far from Stonehenge if you want to go and visit.

Somerset is warmer than a lot of England (it being quite south) and is a very pretty region. I'm sure the village will be very picturesque, but you might get a bit bored. Think about taking a games console (or buying one when you're here)

I think this is probably the school you'll be in http://www.hazlegrove.co.uk/

  2. Get in touch with the school and ask them! They will need to give you details of your job before you arrive.

I did a GAP year in a prep school a few years ago though, and it involved

    - helping teach classes

    - covering classes when teachers were off sick

    - running evening hobbies/clubs

    - helping with sports

    - planning and running a programme of game and activities every weekend for borders

that probably covers most of what you'll be required to do.

If it's a school in Sparkford though I think I know which one you're talking about adn it's kind of in the middle of nowehere so you might want to buy an old banger of a car to get around in your spare time.

Also, if you're from overseas then I would look at booking yourself on some tours of Europe in the holidays to take advantage of being over in the UK as you'll have nice long holidays.

    Have fun!
