Question:

GCSE Art - ideas? natural forms?

ok, well I've just started doing my gcse art, (we've started early for some reason) and the point is I need a few good ideas. The topic I have to stick to is natural forms. That can be anything natural (trees, flowers..) but preferably static things. I have to take my own photo's, so I have primary sources.. but I need a camera. Anyway, I need some good ideas for things to paint or draw or sew or anything.

Also, I need to research an/some artists, and I do not know where to start. I've been to a few art galleries while I was in London, but that was last year and I didn't note down what art I liked, so I am pretty stuck. There are no galleries around where I live, and I've looked at websites, but I am still stuck.

Thanks a lot if you've had the patience to read all that. I just need somewhere to start, then I will be fine. =]

  1. Isn't art a form in which we express our viewpoint, our inner feelings, or to show others a different perspective? Just think of Andy Warhol and pop art, or Marcel Duchamp's striking images, or Kandinsky's lines and spaces, and so on. Before you start, the thinking has to be done first. You don't know what you like, so that's where you start. Do a survey, maybe take out a large art book with colour plates and have a good read, starting at the 20th century and modern art and work backwards. Do you like furniture? You can take a lot of pictures outside (do buy or borrow a digital camera) paying attention to inner space and a new way of looking at the same-old: tire tracks have interesting patterns, the reflection of the scenery on a glass office tower can be interesting if you find an unusual angle. Take artistic black and white shots, focusing on mood, or character portraits of interesting faces (the more wrinkles and lines the better) in their natural environment. Document what goes on around where you live, or macro pictures of flowers very close-up. Car parts also make for interesting photo collage. Anyway, the ideas are endless. You need to know yourself first, your likes, what you find interesting and go from there. Some research first. The most work is in the initial thinking and planning, not the actual execution. Good luck!
