Question:

GCSE ICT 2008 LOW GRADES PROBLEM?

I was just wondering whether anyone else has had a low grade on their ICT GCSE, i feel like i and my friend have been unfairly graded a 'D'. both me and my friend had written over 100 pages worth of coursework to good quality and various ICT teachers had examined it and said that the coursework alone was a good 'C' at the very least.

does anybody else feel like there is some sort of error, and what could we do about it?

thanks.

  1. Yea i fink there might have been a problem!

    I got 6A*s and 5As, but a B in ICT!

I know a B is still good, but i was told i had a minimujm of an A in my coursework, but it sed i got a B.

I was predicted A for my final exam and got a B!

I haven't seen any1 who got an A in It, which is very suprising as it should be an easy GCSE, mainly determined by fairly simple coursework!

I think u might be right that there was an error, but it's most likely that harsh cousework moderations, and a tricky exam (none of the material was tought to me either becoz of time constarints) led to alot of worse than expected grades!

    Ahh well

    -EDIT----

    I was on OCR.

It's mentioned that Edexcel is particularly tricky to get good grades on!

What boards were u guys on???????

  2. I did that in year 10 and completely failed got a D in coursework and a U in the exam. But I passed this year on the OCR course. If you did Edxcel or whatever its called, expect low grades, its not your fault

  3. I got targeted a double 'C' but I came out with a 'A and B'.

Well chuffed, sorry about your grade, there might have been an error but very unlikely

  4. Hmm how big was your font for 100 pages! Lol...

My teacher told me I had done really well in my coursework but I think she was lying because I got a U.

Im with you brother! I hope its an error! Laters

  5. Yer i got a C, targeted A.

    Doesnt sound right lol.

    As/Bs in everyting else

  6. D's are classed as passes too, ok a low score pass, but a pass, none the less. If you aren't happy with your results, re-sit the subject in september, you've done the course work, so the course itself should be easy.

    Good Luck. X :-)

  7. I got three C's as expected so I'm not really that sure

  8. Yeah i got a C and my friend who also took business studies got a D little confusing but ours was the short course was your long course? i wouldnt worry too much if your happy with the rest of your grades =)

  9. yeh i got my results today and i got a D, my lowest and only d grade :( i did the short course btw

but yes deffinately, in the c/w i was told by my teacher (because you get the marks back earlier in that)i got a b and 48/60 which i was really pleased with, then i looked at my results sheet today and it said it was out of 120 which meant i got an e for it! bloody idiots!

i was gutted, i did good in the exam i thought as well, it was so bloody easy...well that's what i thought anyways!

    xxo

  10. deffinately an error..

me and my friend got full marks A* in both courseworks.. which is 60% and have come out with C's... seen as in our mocks we both got A's.. its unlikely we got F's in this years exam as with 60% A*s it would prob mean having to get an F for the other 40% for it to average out as a C.. so im with you as we did the same aqa course.

a C is still a pass.. but dont feel like we should settle for less than we deserve...

  11. Nope, I don't think there was any problem with the marking.

Whether you did 100 pages or just 10 it doesn't matter as coursework is marked on the quality not quantity! If you did 100 pages you did far too many in my opinion!

You simply must have done bad in the exam - just be happy with your D. You could appeal about it by its only one grade u lost!

  12. I was also with the AQA course for ICT and was disappointed with my result. I was predicted an A*: I got an A* in my coursework (92%) and for the last three mock exams I was top of the class with over 90% correct on each. Yet I still got a B in the results. I've done my own mini-investigation in my school, and have found that everyone's results are two grades lower than their original predictions. Another person was predicted an A*, they got a B; another was predicted a B, got a D; another person was predicted an A but got a C. Therefore, there must be an error: for me to get a B in the overall GCSE would mean that I would have had to have answered over half of the questions in the exam wrong, which I know is not correct. I suppose we just have to wait for this to pan out.

As a final note, I asked my teacher about whether the quantity of coursework mattered; she asked AQA, and reported back to me that all the coursework was 'positively marked', so that it did not matter how much you did, as long as you had all of the relevant points in there, you would get the same grade. I did about 100 pages, and yet still received a top mark.

As far as I know, there's no one in my school who has received higher than a B for ICT, despite predictions being much higher. I just hope this is all sorted out quickly.

  13. yeah man

    from my coursework

    i was hoping atleast a B

    i got a C

    =/

    still alright with it

bt i was bit like wtf

and my other friends got low grades too and their courseworks wer quite good too. They got like E F n U when they should have got like Cs

    we were doing AQA =/
