Question:

GCSE Results help: Has anyone ever known... ?

...or heard of students getting A*/A all throughout their studies only to fail or do really bad (C/D) when they get their actual results?

And I don't mean because they were ill or had something bad happen to them, like a death in the family etc.

And if yes, is it really common?

I am just really worried about Thursday and my friends are saying I will do great because I am an A* student, but I am just not sure

Thank you

  1. i am in a similar situation as you though i am not an A* student to be honest with you its almost impossible for a person who's been A* all through the year to suddenly get c/d so i shouldn't worry if i were you.

you might perhaps get an A or a B at the least.

if however you do get a C/D and you think that doesn't look right then i strongly suggest that you get a remark

btw speaking from people who have got their results in previous years they told me that you actually do better than you think

  2. Don't worry, you'll do great, if you've been doing really well (A*) during the year, then you will do absolutly fine, I was exactly the same and I panicked in the exam but still got B's, A's and A*'s!

    GOOD LUCK!!

    X

  3. Yeah I've been predicted A for Philosophy but now im having a heart attack cuz I didnt finish the last question properly which Im afraid will mean alot of marks...=(

  4. If you're an A* student then I'm sure you're fine.

I understand the fear you're talking about.

It's worse the more you care.

But it sounds like you'll do really well on thursday, but remember other people won't do so great. When it comes to the day you need to be a bit more tactful and not refer to C/D grades as "really bad" because that can be really hurtful to people who've worked really hard for their C grade.

I got 2 B's, 3 1/2 C's, 2 D's and an E. I didn't do any work til May of year 11. But right at the end I did loads of revision which enabled me to get what I did. It was my own fault I didn't  do better, but to me my grades were amazing since I'd been expecting so much less. So whilst I was running round the school  screaming my friend was upset because she "only" got an A for something. I'd have been qutie hurt if she'd refered to my grades negatively. I'm not a stupid person. I just got AS results and I got BBBD which I was really happy with!

I wish you good luck! I'm sure if you're an A* student you'll be fine!

And as long as you get 5 passes you can get into 6th form, so  worst comes to worst- you'll still be fine!

    Good Luck!

  5. I'm sure you will do well and at the end of the day, we all tried our best.

Good luck and hope you get those A* and As.

  6. nothing can be changed now so dont dwell on it i was predicted a C for science last year in year ten and i got an A , your hard work will pay off trust me im also waiting and im a bit scared about english becasuse the exam was reallybad but dont worry only 6 DAYS LEFT

  7. If you're predicted A*s you're going to be fine.

Even if you didn't do as well as expected, you're not going to drop that many grades. You must be pretty smart, so don't worry so much about it. I was predicted A*s, and then had to work by myself for the last six months, as well as completing my coursework without much help, and I still ended up with all As.

  8. Yep, I'll give you an example of my experience.

    Geography GCSE - Grade expected = A - Grade awarded - C

    Maths GCSE - Grade expected = A - Grade awarded - C

    Religious studies - Grade expected = A - Grade awarded - E (missed exam)

So yeah, not very good results for me...I did however hit my target of A with double award science.

Just for laughs though, only 23% of people in my year taking GCSE's got 5 A-C grades in their resullts, now my old school is probably closing down :)

Anyways, you should be able to hit your expected grade if you prepare well for your exam, but sometimes your teacher will give an inaccurate expected result, sometimes this can be higher than you can achieve, or too low for your talents.

  9. Never heard of that. If your an A* student I highly doubt you will get C's and D's. Your lucky, I'm expected all C's! Good luck for thursday =)

  10. I think you're worrying too much about it and you'll be fine. A grade students don't usually drop that many grades.

  11. There is a possiblility, Just try not to think about it. Good luck!

  12. It happens when they start to freak out about it.

Relax and be confident, that's what I always do. I took the SATs in 7th grade, while a lot of my friends were freaking out and studying in books, I relaxed and just took a shot at it. I did better than all of them.

  13. Mm... you never really hear about it- but i was worried about that too. i just assumed in like year 10 that i'd get what i was predicted but exams are so unpredictable!

but seriously though- don't worry. the worst that could happen is that you get a few Bs, as to get a* cwk and then a C overall you would need to have got like less than 40% in the exam!! and i'm sure you won't have.

    hope you do well!! :D

i'm scared that i will be disappointed that's all. i don't think it's the grades themselves i'm worried about it's my own personal expectations.

  14. maybe
